A repeat breeding, this is an exciting line-breeding on Tach that couples the incredible strength of Fish and Aurelia with the strong mammaries of Travis (via Very Dark) and Buffy. We were so impressed with the daughter from this breeding last year, Auriga, that we decided to repeat the breeding and miracle of miracles, we got quad does! Four beautiful black does that are all long, tall, dairy, and look just like their mommy.
Aurelia finished her championship in 2014 at 3 years old after winning the very competitive Oregon and Washington State Fairs. She was even BOB at the Washington State Fair, which had more than 70 LaManchas in attendance representing basically every prestigious and incredible herd in the northwest (most of which with National show titles to their names). It was truly a great honor to have her finish in such a splendid way. Aurelia’s twin sister Bernice (owned by Hoosier Harvest), also finished in an incredible way last summer… by going ADGA National Reserve Champion!!! At the 2015 ADGA Nationals, Aurelia came in 2nd place in an incredibly competitive 4 year old class. Fish was not particularly generous with her doe kids, but these twins are making up for that.
Blade as a sire is also equally exciting. Not only have we been continually impressed with all of his kids, but some of them are now freshening with beautifully attached mammaries including yearling milkers Ecstasy and Yulia, and 2015 ALC District VII Speciality winner CH Barnowl Quill. Blade’s full genetic sister SGCH Barnowl Carmilla 3*M is just as popular as Aurelia on our show string. Carmilla has easily the nicest the mammary system in our entire herd, it is an udder that cannot be dismissed and certainly wasn’t in 2014 and 2015. While Aurelia was picking up the GCHs at the 2014 State Fairs, she was sharing the big prizes with Carmilla, who picked up the Best of Breed at Oregon State, the Best Udder of Breed at both shows and topped it with the Best Udder in Show at Oregon State Fair. She continued this by winning both 2015 State Fairs and being awarded the 2015 ADGA National Reserve Best Udder in Redmond.
Ada has really come into her own in terms of body capacity and dairy strength. Her mammary is not showing the level of capacity we’d like to see, but it is quite correct with strong attachments and good teat placement all the way around. After going through our young does and another’s herds, our appraiser this year said, “now this is the type of doe I would want in my barn, she is only going to get better and better!” And indeed, she did get our second highest score of the 2 year olds. We have not fully convinced ourselves to let her go, but we can recreate her and have her full sister Auriga already, so we’re open to being persuaded. If you are a home that does some combination of show, test, and appraisal, and are interested in this striking black and white beauty, give us a call. There also is the potential for a group package with her sister Astraea for a ready-made produce of dam!
