  • kiv-ee-ut
  • Qiviut is the Yupiq Inuit word for the soft underhair of the muskoxen. Muskoxen qiviut is one of the most prized wools in the world, being warmer and softer than cashmere. At the Large Animal Research station in Alaska where Mariah worked, 1 ounce skeins of Qiviut sold for $70.

Qiviut’s ADGA Genetics Page

Qiviut (the Yupiq word for the underhair of the muskox) remains a very promising, but slowly maturing doe.  Smoothly blended, sharp, and with the lovely upstanding and level style of her dam, Qiviut’s general appearance makes her a real eye-catcher.  Although not as capacious as our other Travis daughter, Qiviut has a beautiful mammary system with a smoothly-blended fore udder and a high, wide rear udder.  Like her paternal sister Adrastea, Qiviut is mild mannered and a sort of quiet doe, but when you really start to look at her, her elegance and dairy character just keep you coming back for more!

Qiviut has been an extremely good doe for us, but as we look at numbers to be bred next year we are having to make some hard decisions about who to retire.  Since she easily has 3-4 more kiddings in her, we feel it is a shame to put this beautiful, sweet doe out to pasture as a retiree here when she could be producing lovely kids and producing especially sweet tasting, easy to milk milk for someone else. As she is such a sweet doe and easily Jeremy’s special doe, we are looking for a forever home for her and not a breeder with lots of goats who may find themselves making the same hard decision we are making now.
