Our first ever buy-back doe, Astraea was originally sold as part of a package as just a couple-week-old kid to White Whale Farm and Dairy in California via our good friend Ben Ruphcis. When we sold her we had no idea that we would get no more Fish daughters nor did we realize our leasing of Quantum was going to become a sale nor did we know just how impressive of a doe Aurelia was going to grow up to become. Thus when Ben called us three years later to let us know that the dairy was reducing their LaMancha herd, we jumped at the opportunity to bring Astraea home. Easily as long as her dam, Astraea displays more width and strength in the front end, and possibly a longer fore udder. Astraea came to us as a 3 year old 1st freshener who had been milking-through for over 12 months. We have since dried her off and are so very excited to get her out in the show ring next spring.
Astraea has not exactly worked out as we had hoped, but its not really her fault. Her first year with us in 2016, she gave birth to a single, DOA small mummy buck kid. She didn’t come in with a ton of milk and didn’t milk off her pregnancy weight. Because of this she didn’t make it out to any shows except the uber-competitive WA State Fair, where she held her own and then placed in the top five as a Dam and Daughter with Aurelia. She also surprised us in our one-day milk test by getting her star milker designation with especially high components. In 2017, she ended up being open. Life got too busy and this became the first year we didn’t preg test the herd, and it definitely bit us in the behind with six top does not settling. In the great irony of life, she is sadly but likely going to be available again. If interested, please directly e-mail us.
