Our Red line is “Grading up” too quickly! We so enjoy being among the NW/West Coast Grade/Experimental breeders that when our friend Jessica McDonald had a fancy Oberhasli buck at her house we decided it was time to add a little more red to the mix. Kalliope was a single doe kid with a big surprise: she has ears! The small gopher and elf ear is so genetically dominant we never thought we’d get actual erect airplane ears, but sure enough Kalliope (who we lovingly refer to as “Ears” on the farm) came out with two slimy things attached to her head. 

As a dry yearling, Kalliope is a smaller more compact doe taking after her father’s side, but is especially correct with a lot of strength of bone throughout. Freshening with a single buck kid in 2020, we are disappointed with her low production, however, her shape of udder and teat are quite nice, and her general appearance is outstanding. She’s a quiet, kind doe with the most beautiful dark amber eyes.
