Occult’s ADGA Genetics Pedigree

Occult is the last buck from our herd matriarch, Bewitched. Bewitched passed away a few months after Occult was born, she leaves an incredible legacy with eight progeny having already finished their SGCH and at least two more daughters who have a strong chance to bring that number up to 10.  We recognize we were so blessed to have Bewitched both as an incredible show animal, but also as a true brood animal who produced the highest of quality offspring almost regardless of who she was bred to.  Having Honor as her final breeding is very exciting. We foresee this combination adding length and levelness, as well as “socked on” mammary systems with strong attachments all around and well-placed teats (something some of our other lines have struggled with).  Our most exciting kid of 2016 is Quivira Q, our Occult daughter from Quatchi, who handily won her junior leg with a Best Junior Doe in Show at the 2016 Oregon State Fair.  She has since gone on to freshen with exactly the mammary we had hoped Occult would provide and finish her championship as a 2-year old. Quiviria is pure white, but we now are seeing his tendency to throw black sundgaus, and indeed in 2019, two sundgau junior does sired by him were making quite the splash: dry yearling Aquilina who was the ALC District VII Reserve Junior Champion and intermediate kid Affirmed who picked up a Best Junior Doe in Show at the Clark County Fair. We are excited to see both of them freshen in 2020, and we kept enough other Occult kids that we will also have a junior get of dry yearlings in 2020.

Based on Quivira, Aquilina, and other Occult kids we’ve seen so far in our herd and others, we can see they excel in length, levelness across the topline, wide eschuteons that become wide rear udders, and dairy character. They are also frequently tall giants among their peers. The one trait we are becoming cautious of is strength of bone when using Occult, between their tendency towards dairiness and very large size, we have seen a few progeny on the refined side and some struggle with strength of pastern. We are excited to continue using him to improve eschuteon arch, teat placement, flatness of bone, and spring of rib.
