While she didn’t “come out of nowhere,” Eliona has never the less left us in a bit of shock with just how nice she freshened. She very likely has the best mammary system of any Barnowl goat in 20+ years. The figure skater line is known for many things, good teat placement is not one of them, yet that is one of the things we have been breeding for in that line the last few generations, and as Ardis exclaimed when Eliona first freshened, “we did it, we did it!” When we took her to Nationals the next year, she did it by winning 1st place udder and 2nd place in the 2 year old class. On his sire’s side, Bastille has continued to impress us with good strength of bone, well-balanced kids and his first few fresh daughters have touted especially well attached mammary systems. When our reserved buck kids weren’t born in 2020, we opted to keep this handsome white gent as our junior herdsire. Eliona and Bastille are both on the more moderate size being more compact than many of our long-tall lines, so we don’t anticipate Cizeron bringing size like Qamar or Kaptain, but we are quite confident in his mammary structure genetics and look forward to him lengthening fores, rounding rear arches, and maybe even passing on those perfect little teats of his dam.
