Aero’s ADGA Genetics Pedigree

While he might not have come from our hottest, most “proven” lines, Aero was pretty easily the most handsome buck kid of our 2015 crop. He had absolutely stunning general appearance that immediately drew your eye to him even in a large pen of beautiful kids. He is now a gawky yearling, but continues to have great length and width throughout, strong feet and legs, prominent strong front end assembly, and of course, the classic dairy strength of our foundation animals. Aero sired his first couple kids in summer 2016, as we had predicted, they all excelled in length, levelness, strength of front end, and beautiful dairy angulation with a clean, open bone pattern.

His dam, Amedei, was one of our favorite to work with on a daily basis, unfortunately she freshened extremely uneven with mastitis in 2015, and wasn’t able to get in the show ring. In 2016, still too uneven to show, she was still beautiful enough to score 90 EEEE at our appraisals. Amedei is every bit as long, tall, level, and overall stylish as her more than 1/2 sisters Aurelia and Bernice who have gotten lots of show string attention. As part of our herd reduction sale in summer 2016, we made the hard decision to part with Amedei when a good home became available–we are excited to have Aero to pass on her beautiful dairy general appearance.

With the tan markings on his face he reminds us so much of his recently deceased and herd matriarch grandmother Quidditch. His sire, Quattro, also had a hard-luck story, a strikingly beautiful yearling buck, he became multi-strain resistant to dewormers during one of the worst parasite seasons we’ve ever had. A non-genetic, non-inheritable condition, we did our best to keep him going and was able to have him settle Amedei before we made the hard decision to put him down. We were inspired to make this breeding happen in the first place because of our Victor and Deesse daughter Ambrosia, who is one of the tallest, longest, dairiest does in the herd with great production and mammary attachments.

Given the hard luck stories of his dam and sire, we initially had discounted Aero’s “proven” family. However, after Nationals 2015, we had to rethink this. Not only is his dam closely related to the 2014 ADGA Reserve National Champion CH Barnowl Bernice, but his paternal grandsire is closely related to the 2015 ADGA National Champion GCH Goat-San Venice *M.  There is no appraisal under 90 in two generations and while his dam may now be a brood doe, I guess having two National winners behind him is a bit more proven then we may have been giving him initial credit for. After focusing on mammary structure for the past couple years via our “magic” bucks Blade, Copperfield, and Occult, along with outside bucks Honor and Joplin, we also think there is value in keeping a buck who is likely an ace in the hole for long, level general appearance without giving up much at all in mammary structure and production.

Aero has been put to good use the last few years, between breeding younger does and having really cute kids, most of his does have been sold. However, we’ve been very pleased with the ones we have seen later on and happily kept his daughter out of Yulia this year, who placed well at all our fairs and even beat out our fancy dry yearlings to pick up a Reserve Champion ribbon. His littermate sister Armande has matured into one hell of a milker with an average over 14 pounds with an appraised excellent mammary. As we work to condense our herd and focus in on a few key traits and genetic lines, we did make the difficult decision to part with Armande, sending her to a performance herd in the midwest where she will be doubly spoiled by some goat-loving teenagers.
